Healthcare Provider webinar: Translating everyday guidelines into everyday care

One way that we share important information from Spleen Australia to healthcare providers and our community of people living without a functioning spleen is through online webinars. A recent webinar for clinicians investigated the topic: Translating everyday guidelines into everyday care.

Guest speakers included, Dr Nenad Macesic — Medical Lead @ Spleen Australia, Dr Sarah McGuinness — Infectious Diseases Specialist, Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) and Robyn Grima, a long-term member of the Spleen Australia community and consumer representative.

You can now watch the very informative video on YouTube.

Key Highlights from the Spleen Australia Healthcare Provider webinar included:

Translating evidence into practice

The webinar provided practical education for healthcare providers on implementing evidence-based recommendations for infection prevention in people without a functioning spleen, with a focus on vaccination schedules, antibiotic prophylaxis, and emergency antibiotic management.

Case-based learning and patient-centred care

Through a clinical case study and lived-experience perspectives, attendees explored strategies to improve patient outcomes, strengthen patient education, and enhance engagement with Spleen Australia to support ongoing preventive care.

Strong reach and excellent participant feedback

The national webinar attracted 185 live attendees and a further 800 retrospective viewers. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of participants rating the content as relevant and evidence-based with engaging presenters, and 97% enjoyed the interactive opportunity for questions and 92% rating the presentations as excellent.

Now is the perfect point in time to announce our upcoming first ever consumer webinar.
